PM Harris reminds all nationals to take time to remember why there is a Christmas celebration

Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 25, 2015 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, is urging nationals of the Federation to “take time to remember why there is a Christmas celebration” in his Christmas Day national address.

“As we continue to partake of the merriment, music, parties and feasting that have come to characterize the Christmas (and national carnival) season in St. Kitts and Nevis, let us take time to remember why there is a Christmas celebration.  Let us never forget that Christmas is a time of reflection on the ultimate gift of love we received – without merit - from the Trinitarian God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, in sending His Son to die for the sins of mankind.  Such sacrifice will forever be unmatched in this universe,” Prime Minister Harris said.

Recounting the story of the first Christmas,  he said that “the anniversary of the Nativity of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, is by far, the most notable solemnity in all of Christendom,” and further noted that the “Independence Constitution proudly declares that the Nation of St Kitts and Nevis is established on the belief in Almighty God.”

It is imperative for everyone to embody the values “of a Christmas people who embody the spirit of Christmas every day of the year - for the good of every man, woman and child in our Federation,” the prime minister said, noting that only then, “can we say with the angel at the birth of Christ that there is ‘peace on earth and goodwill toward men.”

“We need a saviour to soften hardened hearts, to turn despair into hope, hate into love, sadness into joy, war into peace, and poverty into prosperity.  Every one of us in St. Kitts and Nevis is in need of hope, love, joy, peace and prosperity, which God and God alone can supply.  Our Christmas celebrations are meant to ignite in us an innate need to be kinder, more humble and decent individuals who must be focused on living our lives in service to others,” Dr. Harris said in reiterating the true nature of Christmas.
