BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Small Axe Band has left all other competing bands in their dust, ‘pepperin dem’ and starting 2016 in a winning note by taking the coveted Road March title for the fourth successive year.
After hours of waiting, member of the Carnival Committee Ivor Blake made the announcement of the winners of the Sugar Mas 44 festivities via ZIZ Radio this afternoon (Jan. 2).
He indicated that Small Axe’s ‘Pepper Dem’ won the Road March title ahead of Nu Vybes’ ‘Juicy Fruit’. The Kollision Band’s ‘Free Willy’ came in third.
The Most Popular Band on J’Ouvert was the Nu Vybes Band International and the Best Sounding Band on J’Ouvert and the Grand Parade was the Kollision Band, followed by the Grand Masters and Small Axe Bands.
Ronnie Rascal was given the title of Most Popular DJ at J’Ouvert and he had tied with Real Right Entertainment and DJ Kevy Kev for Best Sounding DJ at both the J’Ouvert and Grand Parade.
Xtreme Nation was announced winner of the J’Ouvert Top Troupe and was followed by the Shiggidy Shack Buccaneers and GM Addix troupes respectively.
The J’Ouvert Carnival Nurses won the Individual Mas Players category.
For the Grand Parade, which was held yesterday, Banker’s Mas Camp won the Top Troupe title, followed by Ashley Allers’ FhunnVybz and Ultra Carnival came in third.
Banker’s Mas Camp also won the Queen of the Bands and the Best Troupe Awareness categories, while the King of the Bands category was won by FhunnVybz.
Second in the Queen of the Bands category was Solid SKB, followed by Ultra Carnival, while second and third places in the King of the Bands category were won by Ultra Carnival and Banker’s Mas Camp respectively.
DFX placed third in the Best Awareness Troup category with FhunnVybz in second place.
Hundreds of revellers have already taken to the streets of Basseterre for their last jam before the Sugar Mas 44 season comes to a close. That session is expected to end by 9:00 p.m.
