Large quantity of marijuana plants uprooted in Cayon again!

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONCE again the law enforcement agencies have targeted the Cayon community in their effort to eradicate the cultivation of marijuana.

Information reaching this publication states that officers of the Cayon Police Station and a squad of soldiers under the command of Sergeant Carl Greaux were seen uprooting marijuana plants yesterday afternoon (Jan. 31) at various areas in both Upper and Lower Cayon.

This media house was told that following the eradication operation, hundreds of marijuana plants were seen in a truck parked in front the Cayon Police Station and the majority was found in Upper Cayon but the officers did not have anyone in custody for the find.

SKNVibes contacted Sergeant Greaux to confirm the number of plants uprooted and also to provide additional information on the operation, but he refused to do as requested and advised that this media house seek same from the Force’s Public Relations Department.

As directed, SKNVibes contacted that department and was told that they had no knowledge of the operation but would investigate and honour the request.

Over the past month, a number of joint operations, including stop and search, were conducted in Upper and Lower Cayon as well as neighbouring communities and thousands of marijuana plants under cultivation were seizted.

Garden tools and other apparatuses used for the cultivation of the plants were also seized and destroyed, while the search of an abandoned house yielded 10 rounds of .45 ammunition, three .40 rounds of ammunition, camouflage clothing, a black hooded jacket and a mask.

Speaking to yesterday’s and previous operations, some members of the Cayon community were high in praise of the officers at the Cayon Police  Station and the soldiers who are regularly seen there.

They however singled out Sergeant Greaux for higher commendation, noting that his presence has a positive impact on the community, especially the law-abiding members and children.

“Sergeant Greaux is a very impressive person and we would love to see other members of our Police Force emulating him and what he stands for. He seems to be a man of God dressed in police uniform and he always give excellent advice even to known gang members in the community.

“One of the very good things that is very noticeable about him, is that he pays regular visits to the schools in our community and uses the Bible to tell the students how they should live. He also takes the opportunity to tell them about crime and the penalties, not to be involved in criminal activities and to resist the temptation of being influenced by gang members,” one resident told this publication.

The residents however reiterated their call for more officers to be stationed in Cayon, “because many illegal activities are carried out late in the night and very early in the mornings”.
