SKNNEF Issues Grants and Scholarships

    (EMU) – St. Kitts, January 26, 2016: The St. Kitts Nevis National Education Foundation (SKNNEF) hosted its inaugural Scholarship and Grants issuing ceremony on February 2nd moving forward with their aim to provide deserving disadvantage students with an opportunity to receive an excellent education.

    The foundation issued its first batch of scholarships and grants namely, the Caribbean Premier League T20 Scholarship, The Gender Based Scholarship, The Demonstrative Needs Scholarship, and the TVET (spell out TVET) Scholarship.  

    Board member, Ms. Miselle O’Brien informed the audience that, “The development of the person on a whole was one of the requirements, sports and technical vocational training and young males were the main focus.”  From a pool of eighty-five applicants, forty-two students are now the recipients of scholarships and grants from the St. Kitts Nevis National Education Foundation.  

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Shawn Richards delivered congratulatory remarks and best wishes to the SKNNEF Board, “This scholarship should be seen as a selfless philanthropic gesture which enables you to further your educational development,” he expressed to the students.  He went on the cement the Ministry of Education’s commitment to Education, “This 21st century trajectory encompasses improvements in our educational facilities specialized training for our teachers and increasing our partnerships with N.G.O.s such as the SKNNEF and CPLT20.”  

    Mr. Peter Breen, Public Relations Officer of the CPLT20, while reaffirming his organization’s pledge to the advancement of the Federation’s youth commended the SKNNEF on its work, “Praise youth and they will prosper, that is a big part of what this foundation has done today and will continue to do so and to the parents and councillors for the guidance you provide.”  

    The St. Kitts Nevis National Education Foundation was launched in October 2014.  It is funded through donations from philanthropists, non-governmental organizations and businesses as well as and fundraising efforts by the board of Councillors.

    The foundation was launched on the premise that students within the Federation need assistance to attain the full benefits of the Education system, thus, the issuance of grants and scholarships.  The grants for the 2016-2017 Academic Year are, The Student Achievement Grant, The Safe and Caring Schools Grant and The Mini Grant.  Educators and persons that work with children are urged to apply.
