Auditors trained for quality assurance in TVET

    (EMU) – St. Kitts, February 4, 2016: A Quality Assurance workshop geared at training auditors in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) was conducted at the Technical Division of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College from January 25-29.

     

    The Quality Auditor Training Workshop sought to redefine and promote TVET as a vehicle for workforce development and economic competitiveness. The Chief Executive officer at the TVET Secretariat said the workshop comprised ‘interactive sessions’ sprinkled with ‘learning opportunities’. 
    During welcoming remarks the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Shawn Richards, noted that the workshop was a follow up in a series of consultancies to develop and implement the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).  He welcomed everyone present asserting that, “TVET’s time has come!”

    Minister Richards also declared that, “Skills and credentials are the new currency. If we are committing to a sustainable economic prosperity through the credentials of a globally competitive work force we must have trainers who are empowered by a market-responsive education training system.  The Government stands committed to the empowerment of its human resource.”

    He also urged the participants to, “Utilize the training and take it seriously so you can put what you were taught into practice at your various institutions to bring them up to the standards to become approved NVQ and CVQ Centres.”  

    Facilitator Mr. Orlando Hewitt, Quality Assurance Officer at the, Caribbean Association of National Training Agencies applauded the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, “It is good that the initiatives of TVET and general education in St. Kitts and Nevis has the full endorsement of the cabinet as well as that of the Government in general including the Premier of Nevis.”  Mr. Hewitt who was also a member of the team that helped design and develop the NQF, another initiative of the Ministry of Education, a venture which has been ongoing for the past 15 months.  

    He divulged, “The auditing not only of TVET Institutions but institutions in general and at the end of this workshop I am confident that St. Kitts and Nevis, the education and training system throughout will be well poised to align with standards and all other initiatives that are taking place throughout CARICOM.”

    Topics discussed at the workshop included, National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) process.
