The Sixth Annual St. Kitts-Nevis Admiral’s Cup Pro-Am Tournament Comes to a Successful End

Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 16, 2016): Golf enthusiasts from the UK, United States and Canada enjoyed the lush natural beauty and warm hospitality of St. Kitts & Nevis during the Sixth Annual St. Kitts-Nevis Admiral’s Cup Pro-Am Tournament.  The tournament was recently held on both islands of the Federation from February 8 – 10, 2016, and included teams of PGA club professionals, golf media and amateur golfers.

“As you have come to realize by now, golf tourism is a very important element of our overall strategy to grow stay-over to the destination.  Hosting PGA Golf Club Professionals and their guests is helping us to build awareness for St. Kitts & Nevis as a world-class, twin-island golf destination within this affluent target niche demographic,” said the Hon. Lindsey F.P. Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade Industry and Commerce.  “And with the operation of two courses currently, and two more championship courses scheduled to open at Kittitian Hill and Christophe Harbour, we are in an excellent position to expand our golf tourism market.

Kicking off the tournament activities, the visiting golfers and their guests were treated to a Super Bowl dinner on the southeast peninsula at Carambola Beach Club.  They also experienced dining at the Fisherman’s Wharf Seasfood & Grill and the Spice Mill Restaurant.

The golf media - which included Dennis Sliver of CBS Sports Radio and Adam Stanley of the Canadian Golf Media - also visited the northern side of the island, where they received a preview of Irie Fields golf course, at Kittitian Hill and  Christopher Harbour to learn about the development of the Tom Fazio designed 18-hole championship golf, projected to be one of the best courses – if not the best – in the Caribbean.  This was to give them a firsthand look at the emerging golf product to establish the twin island federation as an emerging golf destination.

Refreshments and local food served on the various holes at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Course and Four Seasons, Nevis, throughout the Admiral’s Cup tournament, added to the festive atmosphere of friendly competition that permeated throughout the event.  Shore Excursions, relaxing on the beach and indulging in spa treatments were popular activities for non-golfing guests.

Travel to Nevis for tournament play on the Four Seasons Resort golf course, demonstrated how easy it is to play golf on between both islands.  The closing Awards Gala provided the visitors, many of whom were returning guests, with an exciting glimpse of the island’s culture with masquerades, steel pan music and Carnival girls.

Many guests remarked upon the welcoming people and scenic natural landscape of the twin-island destination.  All players and guests enjoyed the hospitality and renowned service of the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino and the Royal St. Kitts Hotel.

The Admiral’s Cup Pro-Am is managed by the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, and supported by the Ministry of Sports, Brinley Gold Shipwreck Rum, Carib Breweries, Four Seasons Resort Nevis, Royal St. Kitts Hotel, and St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
