Basseterre, St. Kitts, 22nd February 2016 (SKNFA) – Head coach of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Football Team said he was very pleased with the performance of the team against Bermuda, in a match played Sunday night, 21st February, at the Warner Park Football Stadium.
In that friendly international, organized by the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), the National Team defeated Bermuda, 3 – 0, in what was a keenly contested match that provided the spectators with exciting play from both teams.
Speaking after the game, Head Coach Jacques Passy said, “I am extremely pleased with the team, extremely pleased with individual players, but most of all, extremely pleased with the overall attitude that the team had.”
According to Passy, the team displayed “tremendous balance” in its offensive and defensive tactics in a match that was keenly fought by both sides, but it was clear that the St. Kitts and Nevis National Team was more experienced and had possession of the ball most of the time, especially in the second half, and as a result, took advantage of goal scoring opportunities.
Commenting on the match strategies, Passy remarked, “Bermuda is a team that should not be attacked with the long ball, or with high balls, so we wanted to have a lot of possession, a lot of playing on the ground, a lot of football combinations, and that is what we achieved.”
SKNFA Secretary General Stanley Jacobs believes, also, that the team performed well. He said, “I must say congratulations to the St. Kitts-Nevis team for winning this match quite convincingly. It is a very young team made up mostly of local based players.”
The friendly international was organized to assist the St. Kitts-Nevis team to make final preparations before the March start of the CFU Caribbean Cup.
Jacobs continued, “We started last year with two games in Europe, where we were able to see the European based players, and then coming home, the focus was on the local players, and the coach would have gotten the opportunity to see a number of the local players, and I believe they made a good account of themselves.”
In round one of the Caribbean Cup, St. Kitts-Nevis will play Aruba, in Aruba, on March 26. The second game will be played at Warner Park against archrivals Antigua and Barbuda on March 29.
