Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 08, 2016 (RSCNPF): The continued thrust of capacity building within the ranks of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues and was evident at a course completion ceremony on Friday (March 04) at the Police Training Centre.
Nineteen persons comprising of officers from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Her Majesty's Customs and Excise Department and officers from partnering law enforcement agencies in Antigua and Barbuda were given their course completion certificates on Friday.
The three- week course on information, gathering, handling and management has given the officers critical skills to employ in the fight against crime.
Commissioner(Ag) Mr. Ian Queeley in addressing the officers said, "you have been trained, you have gotten the best training our money could buy, and so your class, like the several classes in last year.....are a part of the new direction for our police service. We will invest in the training of our people, to ensure the delivery of outstanding service." He added, "I want to echo the force's appreciation to the Ministry of national Security for the resources to continue this training thrust."
The Commissioner challenged that class, "You have proven that you have those skills to initially get the job done. I want to challenge you, to be active in the demonstration of the knowledge you have acquired. Go out and deliver." He added, "your force and your country have invested in you. Now go and demonstrate you skills, support our team and help us to reduce crime and the fear of crime in our communities and our country."
In the last year, officers have been trained locally by regional and international partners such as the Bramshill Policing Advisers in areas such as Leadership and Management, Officers' Training and Development with the Instructors' course, area -specific training in Immigration, Investigations, Crime Scene Management and Preservation, Interviewing Techniques, Firearms and Ballistics tracing and other areas with several other training opportunities slated for this year.
This training thrust is supported by the goals objectives of the "4 Year Police Strategic Plan 2016-2019 and the Police Service Improvement Plan."
Many of the courses held over the past months, have also benefited our partners at Her Majesty's Customs and Excise Department, and other agencies locally as well as neighbouring law enforcement partners in islands such as Antigua and Barbuda.
The ceremony on Friday was attended by the Mr. Osmond Petty, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, the High Command and other Gazetted Officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, member of Her Majesty's Customs and Excise Department and leadership representatives from partnering agencies in Antigua and Barbuda.
