Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 09, 2016 (SKNIS): Nationals wishing to expand their market of business operation can participate in a lecture on “Public Sensitzation on the CARICOM Skills Certificate” on Thursday, March 10 at the University of the West Indies Open Campus from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
An invitation was issued by Jasemin Weekes, Director of Trade/Research in the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs. She elaborated on who in particular were encouraged to attend.
“On the evening of Thursday 10th the Ministry of International Trade has taken the opportunity while the CSME (Caricom Singe Market and Economy) consultants are here to host what we call an awareness session, where we have invited young persons who are seeking employment or intend to join the employment field sometime soon, those at the CFBC (Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College) level for example. We also invited even other professionals – service providers, persons who would want to explore the region.”
Mrs. Weekes further outlined that persons attending the session may not necessarily have to use the skills certificate immediately, but once it is obtained it will be valid for some time. She said that in addition to the sensitization session, persons were free to go into the Ministry of International Trade for further information related information.
Prior to the CSME sensitization session, the Ministry of International Trade in collaboration with the CSME will be hosting a training session on “The Free Movement Regimes of the Caribbean Community,” March 10 and 11. According to Mrs. Weekes, this session is designed particularly for private sector representatives.
“We are having a mission coming from CSME in Barbados to speak in particular to the private sector about movement of labour,” Mrs. Weekes said. “You know under the CSME there are certain rights. The regime allows for persons to move. Artists can now move musicians, media workers and so forth.
“But of course moving through the region – there are certain criteria that must be met. The will be speaking to persons, sensitizing them as to what is required.”
The two-day workshop will include a brief opening session, the facilitation of travel regime, free movement of skilled workers, a case study and a discussion and recommendation session.
