Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 09, 2016 (SKNIS): Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris’ inaugural visit to Dubai is being hailed as a resounding success so far.  In the first 24 hours, the prime minister’s packed schedule included several individual meetings at the Consulate General’s office and hosting a cocktail reception and town hall meeting at the One and Only Royal Mirage Resort.

Citizens came in from far and near to be part of this auspicious occasion. Along with a dozen or so native born citizens now resident in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the audience consisted predominantly of citizens through the Citizenship-by-Investment (CBI) programme who flew in from as far as India, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan, Yemen and Kuwait, and drove from across the UAE, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to attend the event. The Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Harris, was given a warm welcome by citizens and members of the diplomatic fraternity attending the event.

With over three hundred persons in attendance, the room was ram packed with attendees standing at the back and in the garden.  The main theme of the event was to update citizens living in the Middle East of what is transpiring within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.  During his discourse, Prime Minister Harris reassured citizens that St. Kitts and Nevis is experiencing continued economic growth and is poised for additional investment opportunities and that the government is working assiduously to restore the confidence of nations such as the USA and Canada in relation to the missteps previously made in relation to the administration of the CBI programme.

The prime minister further explained the dynamics of the Unity Government and expressed gratitude from the diversity within the party. “The government is stronger because it is made up of three parties working hard as one in the best interest of our country”, he said.

The refrain from the audience was positive.  They feel confident, encouraged, reassured and excited that the country they now call home is in good hands under the leadership of the Team Unity Government. Citizens are now eager to visit and to do further investment in their new home country of St. Kitts and Nevis after the prime minister’s informative, passionate and heart-felt speech.

The panel consisted of the Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, the Attorney General, the Honourable Vincent Byron, Cabinet Secretary, Mrs. Josephine Huggins, Ambassador Constance Mitcham, and Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of St. Kitts and Nevis in Dubai, Mrs. Elsa Wilkin-Armbrister. The Hon. Vincent Byron gave a presentation on St. Kitts and Nevis complimenting the Hon. Prime Minister’s speech.

The Town Hall meeting was chaired by the Deputy Consul General, who was applauded by Range Developer Mohammed Assaria on the work she has been doing with the primary schools in Dubai.  Mr. Assaria told the audience that Mrs. Wilkin-Armbrister has been educating young children in the United Arab Emirates about St. Kitts and Nevis through her participation in International Day celebrations, where she displays the national flag, paraphernalia about historic and touristic sites in the Federation; preserves and other items produced in St. Kitts and Nevis; and a map of “Where is St. Kitts and Nevis” highlighting the different routes one can take to get to St. Kitts and Nevis. The efforts of the Deputy Consul General have been featured in the local newspapers here in Dubai and the surrounding Emirates.

The event came to a close with a photo shoot of the Honourable Prime Minister with his citizens and having brief discussions with them individually.

The Prime Minister is next slated to be the feature speaker at the XYZ Conference at the Shangri-La Hotel.

The Consulate General of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, would like to extend special thanks to Bayat Legal Services and Range Development for co-sponsoring the event.  The Prime Minister’s presence and address in Dubai will positively impact the Citizenship programme of St. Kitts and Nevis.
