March 10th, 2016 -- After raining for the entire week the ark clouds gave way to some brilliant sunshine n Saturday 5th March allowing the Ghaut Bulls to complete a 2-0 series win the best of three finals of the St.Paul’s Cricket Club Super 30 League.
Having won the toss, Captain Richards of the Rawlins Ground Hawks inserted their arch rivals, Ghuat Bulls who had only lost one game of the season to the Bayside Pelicans, which didn’t advance to the play offs after securing their only victory. After their best start the season, 1 wicket for 63 runs, led by S. Pemberton (32) Leeward island U-15 cricketer and Greg Stanley (9) Ghaut began to lose their way but a pulsating display of power and timing by Anthony Caines (55) led the team to a formable total of 152 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs. He was ably support by Terence Wars (15) former Leeward Island U-19 cricketer. Terence Richards was the peak of the bowlers, 4 overs, and 16 runs 1 wicket.
In chase of their target, Rawlins Ground Hawks got off to a shaky start losing their first wicket with only 1 run on the board. A well needed partnership between Quame Challenger (37) and Vanroy Agard (11) gave the Hawks a glimmer of hope. However, after Anthony Caines picked up the prized wicket of Agard who looked dangerous in the over before hitting ****** Esdaille, Leeward U-15 cricketer, over his head for 6, Khalid Deguire arrived at the crease. He contributed 27 runs taking the total to 3 for 85. Terence Ward finally removed both batsmen in quick succession then the slide started inspite of a cameo from pace bowler Teshaun Francis (12) but by then it was already too late. In the final over, needing 40 runs for victory, he was caught by T. Ward at mid-on off the bowling of off-spinner Javarl Ward ( 1 over 4 runs, I wicket). The Hawks were finally dismissed for 114 runs losing by 38 runs, leaving the Bulls to celebrate their well-deserved victory. The disciplined bowling attack of the Bulls led by Terence Ward 3 for 11 and Anthony Caines 2 for 9 proved too much for the Hawks to handle.
One wonder what might have been the results if the boys from Basseterre/ Conaree grassroots combined didn’t forfeit their semi-final game due to the transportation issues. But the Bulls were confident and adamant that they would have delivered them the same licking they got in their first round match-up.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for 26th March, 2016 at 1 p.m when all 4 teams will compete in a ten/10 cricket festival. Live entertainment would be provided by Crucial Band.
