BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE partly decomposed body of 17-year-old Tyrique Duncan of Spooner’s Project was found today (Mar. 10) along a heavily-grassed dirt road in Hermitage Estate, Lower Cayon with what appeared to be multiple bullet wounds to the chest and head.

On arrival at the scene, many relatives and friends of the deceased were present and his distraught mother, who was allowed to view the body, was crying uncontrollably and heard loudly saying, “Look how dey do me child!” while being consoled by two males.

Speaking with media representatives close to the area where the body was found, Assistant Superintendent of Police with Responsibility for the Operations Directorate, Terrance James disclosed that an anonymous caller had informed the police of the discovery.

“This afternoon just about 12:00 p.m., the partly decomposed body of Tyrique Duncan of Spooner’s, Cayon was discovered down at the Hermitage Estate on the main road of the Hermitage Estate area. At present, the Crime Scene persons have processed the crime scene and some empty casings were found...things of evidential value were found and taken into police custody. An anonymous caller called the Police Headquarters and gave us the information and we acted upon it right away and we were able to come straight over to the scene.”

James said that he is a resident of the area, therefore, there was no difficulty in locating the body, which he stated was “right on the main road”.

Prior to SKNVibes’ arrival at the scene, it was rumoured that Duncan’s head was severed from his body. But when the question of decapitation was posed to the ACP, he quickly said: “I cannot confirm that because I didn’t go close to the body. I wanted to protect the crime scene until the Crime Scene officer arrives at the crime scene, so I personally did not go close up to the body.”

He however confirmed that the teen was shot, stating that “we could reasonably suspect that he was shot”.

The District Medical Officer, Dr. Garfield Alexander, was summoned to the scene where he pronounced Duncan dead, and the body was removed from the scene by a funeral home at about 2:00 p.m. under police escort.

The 17-year-old was reported missing since Sunday (Mar. 6) and his mother had told SKNVibes that he was last seen bedecked in a gray vest, a pair of short jeans and a pair of black and white Nike sandals. However, at the crime scene, he was wearing a camouflage pants and black boots.

The mother had reported him missing on Monday and on the following day she was joined by other family members in a search for him in the Wash Ghaut area in Cayon, where he was reportedly last seen.

According to a police communiqué, members of the Special Services Unit, Fire and Rescue Services Department and the K-9 Section of Ross University had joined family members in their search for the missing lad.

Tyrique Duncan’s death has taken to eight, the number of homicides recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year; one on Nevis and seven on St. Kitts.
