Justice for Philo Wallace: SAVE SKN Group dissatisfied with jury verdict

    CHARLESTOWN, March 14, 2016 -- Members of SAVE SKN Group, founded to reduce crime incidents on St. Kitts and Nevis is not satisfied with the jury verdict announced after the conclusion of the Coroner’s Inquest into the  death of  Philo Wallace. 

     

    In a Press statement issued over the weekend the Group said,” We, would like to inform the public that the findings of the Coroner's Inquest into the shooting death of Philo Wallace are not necessarily the final word.”

    “According to the Coroner's Act, charges can still be brought against the shooter. The Wallace family deserves a hearing in open court and a chance for justice for young Philo,” the statement said.
     
    The Coroner’s Inquest into the use of a firearm by an off-duty Police Officer that resulted in the death of Philo Wallace, a promising cricketer,was completed on Thursday, March 10, 2016. The panel of jurors returned a decision of ‘Justifiable Homicide.
     
    The inquest, which began on Thursday, January 21, 2016, was heard by Her Worship Jasmine Clarke at the District ‘C’ Magistrate Court in Charlestown, Nevis on Thursdays and Fridays, and yesterday she gave her summation upon which the jury deliberated.
     
    Philo Wallace, of Hamilton Village in Nevis, was shot and killed by an off-duty policeman on October 17 last year, which resulted in a public outcry for justice. 
     
    According to reports, at about 3:45 a.m. on the day in question, he was shot in the chest while at Enrique’s Bar and died at the Alexandra Hospital approximately half hour after arriving there. .
     
    As a result, investigations into the matter were done by the police and the case file was sent to the then Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Arudranauth Gossai, who wrote a letter to Her Worship Jasmine Clarke on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 advising her to hold a Coroner’s Inquest into the matter.
