SKNFA officials say National team is ready for CFU encounters

Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 15th March 2016 (MyVueNews.com) – The St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) is in full preparatory mode for the hosting of one of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup matches, St. Kitts and Nevis vs Antigua and Barbuda, later this month.

Come Tuesday, March 29, the national football team will come up against one of the country’s persistent sports opponents, the Antigua and Barbuda football team, in what is expected to be an exciting encounter.

According to General Secretary Stanley Jacobs the preparation of the team started several months ago and included the national team playing in Europe against teams from Andorra and Estonia, becoming the first Caribbean team to beat a European team in Europe. The national team also played a practice match against a team from Bermuda, at the Warner Park Football Stadium, which the team won convincingly.

Jacque Passy, the team’s head coach, said he is pleased with the performance of individual players on the field of play, and added that they have the right attitude for competition. He feels the team will be very competitive in the CFU tournament.

The Caribbean Cup encounter with Antigua and Barbuda will come after the national team’s first encounter, March 26, against Aruba, in Aruba, arriving back in the federation the next day to continue preparing for the next match.

Speaking about the significance of the Caribbean Cup to St. Kitts and Nevis, SKNFA President Johnson said, “That tournament, for us, is very critical, because, if we can, as I believe we will, make it to the top four in the Caribbean, we will then qualify to go into the Gold Cup, which is a very important tournament, as far as exposure is concerned, and also, it is a pretty lucrative tournament.”

All of the technical and administrative details will be taken care of in time for the encounters. What is now needed, SKNFA officials say, is for football fans and others to come out in their large numbers to give the strongest support possible to the team.

The match will be played at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium on 29th March. Tickets purchased today and up to 24th March will be at $30. After that date, tickets will cost $40 per person. Tickets are available at Football House, Lozack Road, Basseterre.
