‘Pressy’ laid to rest...remembered as friendly

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – UNCLE, Pressy were the names by which the late Mark Leon Williams was affectionately known, and during his funeral service yesterday (Mar. 21) those who were touched by his presence recalled moments of the life of the man who was killed by the gun.

Held at the chapel of the Eastern Benevolent Society, the service drew several individuals, some of whom paid tribute in song, but it was the words of others which spoke to Williams’ character.

He was hailed as a friendly man who never ceased to express care for those with whom he came in contact.

As one individual put it, he was known as ‘Uncle’ because that is the role he played. He practically functioned as a member of the family of those individuals whom he met and to whom he grew close.

Helpful was another of the attributes that another individual highlighted of Williams. He explained that having met the 39-year-old some time ago, he quickly discovered that he was one who was always willing to provide help with his business whenever he needed it.

The glowing tributes however did very little in dispelling the grief which William’s relatives felt during the service. His mother – Latoya Williams - in particular was openly distraught over the death of her second son, pining and whaling for several moments over the white coffin that bore his bullet-riddled body.

His youngest child was also obviously distraught over the death of her father.

Mark Leon Williams was interred at Springfield Cemetery where the atmosphere was somber and several faces moistened with tears as reality set that he was actually gone.

Williams departed this life on the evening of March 11, 2016 after being shot several times while in Nevis, a place where he had lived for two years leading up to his death.
