Farmers Market deemed a success

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CORPORATE citizen TDC Group of Companies has expressed its satisfaction with the reception farmers received from the general public at their recently held Farmers Market.

The initiative, which is in its third year, provided local farmers the opportunity to showcase their produce at several of the company's locations in both St. Kitts and Nevis.

According to TDC’s Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator in St Kitts and Nevis, Dominic Matthew, the Market formed part of the month of activities that the company has ongoing to recognize the contribution it is making to the Federation.

“The idea behind Farmers Market is really to show our appreciation to the farming community. Apart from the 20 to 25 percent in the stores, at the end of the month we give farmers the opportunity to sell to our customers.

“So we create small stalls where we have fresh fruits and one ornamental stall. The idea, again, is to show appreciation to the farming community throughout the Federation.”

The event, which was held on Saturday (Mar. 19), saw the public responding in a favourable manner, according to Edward Claxton, Supervisor of the TDC Home and Building Depot.

“Our customers, those who are aware of it and those who heard the ads, were quite pleased that they were able to come in, do their shopping and at the same time stop outside and save themselves the extra traffic downtown and get their groceries.”

Additionally, Claxton informed that the farmers express satisfaction with the reception they received from the public that took time out to visit their stalls.

To this end, Claxton stated that he supports the agreement between his Department and the farmers in this particular venture.

“I am in strong support of that. There is always room for improvements and if there is anything that can improve on it and make it better, by all means I support it.”

Since the inception of Farmer's Month, TDC has been lending support and advice to farmers in St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Apart from the sale, we do field visits and our sales representatives visit these farmers and offer advice  and listen to some of their concerns as to how TDC Home and Building Depot Agro-Department can meet their needs,” Claxton explained.
