Nevis Tourism Authority Visit UK to help cement relationships with travel trade and media

Charlestown, Nevis - March 2016… The Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) have completed a successful week in the UK strengthening relationships with travel trade and media. Highlights from the week include Unite Caribbean, one-to-one meetings between Minister Brantley and key media, a breakfast press conference along with Travel Agent and Tour Operator training.

The week kicked off with a hugely successful series of one-to-one media interviews hosted by Minister Brantley, with press from key titles including The Telegraph and Spears as well as meeting with British Airways to discuss the airline partnership. The Minister was accompanied by CEO, Greg Phillip and a member from the UK PR team. Meanwhile, at the 15th Annual Unite Caribbean, Ms Julie Claxton, Sales & Marketing Manager UK, met with 20 key tour operators who sell various sectors of Nevis including hotels and villas. Present at Unite Caribbean were 126 delegates from over 81 UK tour operating companies, providing a fantastic opportunity for the NTA to further grow and develop business in the UK market.

Tuesday saw Minister Brantley and CEO of the NTA, Greg Phillip, lead a press conference with a mixture of luxury, national, travel and lifestyle journalists. The intimate press conference provided a platform to update media on news from the island including tourism updates and the development of geothermal energy. The press conference was extremely well received with journalists engaged and interested in the growth of the island.

For the remainder of the week the NTA turned their attention to the trade market, hosting a Travel Agent dinner and training event in association with Caribtours to raise awareness of the destination among high quality travel agents. The NTA also visited key Tour Operator partners (including British Airways Holidays, TUI and Turquoise,)  to discuss working together more closely, in order to continue building UK visitor numbers to the island. Product training was also provided to retail and marketing staff. These visits were organised to show the NTA’s commitment to growing UK sales, maintaining strong relationships with the trade and showcasing Nevis as an exclusive, premium destination.

Greg Phillip, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority, said “there has been an abundance of news and developments occurring on our island of late and now is an appropriate time for us to share this exciting information with the UK travel media and trade. Nevis has seen huge growth in UK visitor numbers and it is hoped that this trip will help cement the relationships we have built over the past few years to ensure this growth continues.”

It is hoped that the week’s events have further developed existing relationships within the UK travel industry whilst also providing the first step in building new and prosperous relationships. It is hoped such relationships will continue to help increase UK visitor numbers to the destination year on year by raising awareness of the authentic tourism product on offer.
