Great Week for St. Kitts Cruise Sector

By: St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Press Release

BASSETERRE (23RD March, 2016): More than 35,000 visitors came to St. Kitts from cruise ship calls this week. Five crue ships called on St. Kitts today, bringing more than 7,000 visitors to the island.

Wednesday saw a total of three ships arriving in St. Kitts, bringing close to 14,000 visitors to the destination. Also on that day the world largest cruise ship, the Oasis of the Seas, visited St. Kitts for the first time, bringing more than 6000 passengers to the destination.

This week saw multiple cruise-ship days, with a total of 13 ships calling on St. Kitts.

Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, said it was important that the people of St. Kitts & Nevis are able to capitalize on the increase of cruise ship arrivals to the destination.

“The cruise sector is now filled with opportunities for enthusiastic individuals, and the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the St. Kitts Tourism Authority will continue to seek sustainable growth in the entire tourism industry,” Minister Grant said.

Minister Grant pointed this year St. Kitts will break the one million mark of cruise passengers visiting in a cruise season.

“Port Zante's location in Basseterre and the large variety of unique and authentic tours makes St. Kitts a very special port of call,” Grant said.

Today the five ships visiting St. Kitts were Aida Luna, Thomson Celebration, Celebrity Eclipse, Wind Surf and Silver Wind.
