BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHE is probably the only person to have won the Kajola Kristada Employee of the Month (EoM) award on three occasions and, just listening to her Line Leader speak of her performance and work ethic, one can understand why Millicent Periera has been able to achieve that feat.
Pereira joined the Kajola family in May 1999 and throughout the years she developed the reputation as a hard worker who was intrinsically motivated.
“Millie is extraordinary. I can leave work on the line and once the instructions are there she would run it without me even having to tell her. When you have people like that working with you, they are dependable. You can depend on them to get the job done anytime, any day. If you forget to tell her work is a particular day and you call her five minutes to the hour, she would come and she is never late,” Julianna Griffin, Line Leader of the SMT Line, told SKNVibes
Pereira’s work, much like her colleagues, begins at 7:30 a.m. but each day she arrives for work more than an hour before the allotted time.
Griffin told SKNVibes that because Periera, one of the company’s solderers, gets to work as early as she does, “she prepares the line…When the others come in at 7:30 she has stuff for them to do already because she had already gotten a head start on soldering her pieces”.
Because she had won the award twice before, one would expect that Periera is somewhat accustomed to receiving such great news. Nonetheless, when the members of the Employee of the Month Committee jubilantly walked through the factory to hail the February 2016 winner and she discovered it was her, Periera could not help but shed tears of joy.
“This time I was just as excited as the other two times. I always push my work, and to do that and then to achieve this, it is a great feeling. I really didn’t expect it to be me.”
“Congratulations on behalf of SMT and keep on doing a good job. Encourage others and I hope they use you as an example to get the job done,” Griffin admonished Pereira.
The February 2016 Employee of the Month told SKNVibes that she would be commemorating the achievement by having dinner at Sprat Net with her youngest daughter this evening (Mar. 26).
