BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the Christian community in the Federation joining the rest of the world to reflect on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris is calling for peaceful celebrations among citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Speaking with SKNVibes at his Constituency Fun Day and Kite Flying Competition at Black Rocks, PM Harris pointed out that it is a special season for reflection and as such people need to be careful as they party.

“The Easter weekend is a very special one in the lives of Caribbean people and also the people of St. Kitts and Nevis who are no different in that regard. We hope that this would be an incident free occasion, that it is a time for people to relax and engage in revelry and enjoy themselves and make good even though in the calendar it is one of the significant occasions.”

He noted that this is the time of the year when people not only focus on the birth, but they must also reflect on the sacrifice that was made by the Lord and Savior that brought us to this occasion.

“It brings memories not just the birth but the powerful resurrection and, as a result of that resurrection, we can say that death has lost its sting. Therefore, importantly for us, we would want people even as they enjoy to do it in such a way that it is respectful to the religious traditions even while they participate actively in the secular aspect of what the Easter weekend has been about.”

Easter is a time of the year where the Christian community around the work commemorate the crucifixion of their Lord Jesus Christ for the cleansing of sin.

It is said to be one of the oldest festivals on the Christian calendar.

According to Christian teachings, Jesus was nailed to a cross, died on the first day and resurrected on the third day which is general celebrated with the symbolic kite flying.
