Leewards U15 & U19 Youth Cricket Tournaments bowl off

By: LICB, Press Release

28th March 2016, LICB Media - The Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) Annual Under 15 youth tournament gets underway in St. Kitts today, while the Under 19 tournament will start in Antigua later in the week.

Matches in the Under 15 tournament are scheduled to be played in both St. Kitts and neighbouring Nevis and the Under 19 Tournament will be hosted in Antigua starting on Thursday, 31st March. Both tournaments will feature teams from six member territories, the BVI will play only in the U15 tournament and St. Maarten will play only in the U19. The other five territorial teams which will compete in both tournaments are Anguilla, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts and Antigua.

Both tournaments are expected to be highly competitive with a renewed emphasis on youth development. Leewards youth cricket has produced several regional cricket stars since its first U19 tournament was held over thirty years ago. Two recent products of the system were key members of the 2016 Under 19 World Cup Champions, Alzarri Joseph of Antigua and Keacy Carty of St. Maarten.

The LICB is grateful to Coca Cola, the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis and the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association for their generous assistance in staging these important tournaments.
