Lodge water issue being rectified

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE water woes that members of the Lodge community have been suffering over the past year should soon be resolved with the installation of a new pump in the well that supplies the area.-

Technicians of the Water Department were seen working at the Lodge well yesterday (Apr. 4) where they successfully removed the old pump and installed a new one.

Acting Manager of the Water Department Denison Paul told SKNVibes that sections of the Lodge community has been experiencing varying levels of water shortage for about a year.

The contributing factors, he explained, are the depletion of surface supplies because of drought-like conditions and the inability of the previous pump to deliver adequate water supply to households.

“We had a pump in that well because in terms of delivery of water it was not adequate. So another pump was ordered and it took a while to be delivered. That new pump was installed today and in the next day or two the system should be back to normal, and the suffering of the Lodge people should come to an end.”

Paul offered an apology to members of the Lodge community for the difficulty they had experienced as a result of the water shortage.

“We want to apologize for the suffering they have been going through but, as I said, the surface supplies are drying up and the flows are really, really low. So more and more areas that relied on these surface sources we now have lengthened that supply with wells.”

He said the recent installation of the pump should also assist in alleviating the water shortage problems being experienced in the lower portion of Bourryeaux.
