BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Just four days after this media house had published that investigations into a rape and attempted murder incident was underway, police have informed that a young man is in custody.

According to a police release, “Adrian Patrick of Phillip’s Village has been arrested and formally charged with the offence of rape, stemming from an incident reported on Monday, April 4, 2016 in which a resident of Phillip’s Village reported she was raped in her home”.

The release also stated that Patrick’s arrest and charge were as a result of an investigation led by officers of the Special Victims Unit (SVU).

On Saturday (Apr. 9), SKNVibes published that a concerned resident of Phillip’s Village had claimed there was “little to no response from the police in the area” since the incident occurred on Monday (Apr. 4).

The concerned resident also said: “The people in the area are very concerned. Some even fear for their kids life since the rapist is now walking around with his gun in his hip from since the talk has been out that he was the one to brutalize the young woman.”

The person further said: “Can you please help by getting the police or politicians to respond...we are not all monsters in Phillip’s Village.”

Following the plea, SKNVibes contacted a Senior Officer who stated: “Like all criminal matters under investigation, especially serious crimes, the police will not publicly disclose the findings until a thorough investigation is done and the perpetrators are apprehended and charged.

“This particular incident is no different and the victim and her family members as well as all other concerned residents of that community can rest assure that the police are working assiduously to bring the perpetrator to justice.”

Since publishing what the concerned citizen said, one individual had commented: “Suggestion: public needs reassurance. This helps with police image. Response should be: Confirmation that a report was filed. Confirmation that an investigation is ongoing. Confirmation that all efforts are being made to apprehend these responsible. Person of interest being looked at. Ask for help.”

When contacted this afternoon (Apr. 13), SKNVibes told the Senior Officer of the comment and he reiterated what he had earlier said, adding that “we could not have disclosed certain information whilst the investigation was in process, but we can now do so as the alleged perpetrator was arrested and charged”.
