BVI, 10 May 2016 - The Jost Van Dyke School is the most recent recipient of funds through the Adopt-A-School programme as the Ministry of Education and Culture continues to create a culture of excellence through partnerships with corporate and community oragnisations.
In a short ceremony on the Jost Van Dyke School grounds in April, Managing Partner of Carey Olsen British Virgin Islands Practice Group, Mr. Clinton Hempel, presented a cheque for $10,000 as the school’s second adopter under the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Adopt-A-School programme.
Mr. Hempel said that the Hempel family has a fairly long and strong connection and relationship with Jost Van Dyke and added, “A couple of years ago I was fortunate enough to found my own law firm, Carey Olsen. One of my priorities then and now was to give back to the community.”
Mr. Hempel commended the Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn for revitalising the Adopt-A-School programme and expressed sincere gratitude for being accepted as an adopter to a place he calls home.
The Minister for Education and Culture praised the Hempel family and the law firm Carey Olsen for their contribution to the Territory’s education system by way of their adoption.
The cheque for $10,000 was presented to Honourable Walwyn who then presented it to the Chairperson of the Adopt-A-School Programme, Mrs. Brenda Lettsome-Tye. The cheque was then presented to the principal, Ms. Laverne Blyden.
Ms. Blyden thanked the Hempel family for their thoughtfulness and support over the years, and also expressed gratitude to the Chinnery family, who is also an adopter of the school.
Through the Adopt-A-School Programme, Carey Olsen will work directly with the Jost Van Dyke School on many school projects to support the shared priorities of the school and other partners.
The Adopt-A-School Programme was formally launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2007 and serves to provide a necessary link between the schools and their donor organisations to ensure that each school’s environment is conducive to a dynamic learning experience by the accountable and transparent use of donor funds.
