The St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee Donates over 40 Pairs of Shoes to the Cardin Home

By: SKNNCC, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, (May 10th, 2016): On the heels of its presentation at the JNF General Hospital on Thursday May 5th, the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Committee, (SKNNCC), once again demonstrated its focus on and commitment to community development on the following day, when it donated over 40 pairs of shoes to female residents at the St. Christopher Cardin Home.

These shoes were donated to the SKNNCC by Mr. Winfud Thomas, a rather civic-minded Kittitian, who has been giving back to St. Kitts at large, and to Carnival, over the years. If one can recall, Mr. Thomas was the gentleman who donated the elaborate Christmas lighting and other decorations to the Carnival Committee during Carnival 2015-16, which were used to light the Round-about at Bakers Corner.  He also contributed some Christmas ornaments used to decorate the Square during Sugar Mas 44.

“This contribution is just one of the many ways that the National Carnival Committee shows its appreciation to the citizens of our Federation. We will continue striving to achieve our objectives, one being to give back to our Citizens because without them there is no Carnival. We express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Mr. Thomas for his continued support and contributions. I also extend gratitude to the Carnival Committee members who volunteer their time, expertise, resources, and at times, even their personal money to support our Carnival initiatives.  We also say thanks to Senior Nurse Bass, who was eager and gracious to accommodate us here today,” expressed Mr. Mills.

Sister Bass accepted the shoes and in her brief comments, she said, “On behalf of the residents and staff at the Cardin Home, we accept this generous contribution and say thanks to the Carnival Committee for thinking of us. This contribution will go a long way for those who have limited assistance and rely solely on the Cardin Home for support.” As evidence of their appreciation and instant gratification, several residents tried on shoes right there and then, and walked off modeling their new footwear.
