BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DAMIAN HENDRICKSON, the man who was arrested and charged for allegedly wounding a young woman to her head with a hammer, was granted bail with two conditions.

Charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, Hendrickson was granted bail in the sum of EC$5,000 and has to report to the Basseterre Police Station every Friday between 6:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m. as well as to stay 100 feet away from the woman he allegedly wounded, according to a police report.

He was also ordered to report to the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday, July 4, 2016 to answer to the charge.

On Monday (May 9), Hendrickson of the Gardens Housing Project in Irish Town was charged with the offence after he had alleged struck a woman on her head with a hammer.

The incident occurred during an altercation on Friday night (May 6) in the vicinity of the Basseterre Ferry Terminal.

This media house learned that the woman had thrown a bottle, which accidentally struck Hendrickson and caused a wound to his forehead.

It was reported that the woman had apologised but he left the scene and shortly after returned with a hammer and struck her to the head.

This incident allegedly occurred in the presence of many patrons to the bars in the vicinity and a male intervened and led her away from the scene.

On a visit to the hospital Monday morning, SKNVibes met and spoke with the woman, who is said to be in her 30s.

The woman admitted to throwing a bottle but explained that it was intended for someone with whom she had a problem and not Hendrickson.

She further explained that she did not leave immediately for the hospital and that the reason for going there was not in connection with the head wound, but for a pain she had felt in the region of her heart after lifting a heavy object.

While there, however, sutures were administered to her wound and she was also being treated for a mental ailment for which she claimed she had been suffering from for a number of years.

The young woman also said she was unaware that the bottle had caused an injury to the man’s forehead, and after he struck her with the hammer she thought the blood on his person came from her wound.

At the time when this media house spoke with the young woman, she was a patient in the Psychiatric Ward at the JNF General Hospital.

SKNVibes also spoke with Hendrickson who was at the hospital at that time. He too had had sutures administered to his wound.
