BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE man, who police said was in custody assisting them with investigations into the shooting of two young men on Friday (May 13), was charged yesterday (May 16) with the offences.

A police communiqué stated that the man, Chad Williams of Central Street, Basseterre, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting with intent.

The incidents took place at approximately 9:10 a.m. at the junction of Westbourne Ghaut and Cayon Street, Basseterre, just minutes before a large number of students from the Maurice Hillier Primary School were marching along Cayon Street as part of the learning institution’s Week of Activities.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes had observed members of the Crime Scene Unit were already there conducting investigations and about 10 markers, indicating the find of spent shells, were seen along Cayon Street.

It was learnt that three young men were seen running east along Cayon Street and heard shouting for help while being chased by two gunmen.

One of them, whose name was given as Tissan Williams, was reportedly shot in the back and the other, Lashawn Wilkes, was shot to his shin, but the third man escaped unscathed.

The two injured men, who are said to hail from Camps Village, were transported to the JNF General Hospital and it was learnt that their injuries were not life-threatening.

According to one individual who claimed to have heard the report of gunfire, one of the shot men had entered a private property on Cayon Street in his bid to escape the gunman’s wrath and had left a trail of blood along that thoroughfare.

Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing as they continue their search for the second gunman.
