The Final Countdown Show fundraiser set for June 4

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A charitable event which would see all proceeds being donated to the Joseph N. France General Hospital will be hosted by students of the Windsor University next month.

The event, dubbed ‘The Final Countdown Show’, is being undertaken by Windsor students and persons at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

Scheduled to take place at the St. Kitts Marriott Ballroom at 7:30 on the evening of June 4, 2016, the concert will take the form of a cultural melting pot, where the diversities of cultures, skills and talents would be showcased.

Chairman of the Final Countdown Show’s Fundraising Committee, Laura Besona said the event was given that name for a reason and patrons would have to attend in order to find out what the countdown is about.

She did explain however that the show would feature performances by students in poetry, dance, a fashion show, special musical talents, short skits, etc.

The cultural jamboree is the fourth of its kind and Besona informed that last year more than $30,000 was raised and this year it is hoped that that figure could be exponentially surpassed.

She said regular tickets are available for $30 and VIP tickets begin from $100, and that perks of purchasing the latter include front row seats at the event.

Besona informed that a number of sponsors are already on board, but explained that the more there are the better.

“It is a good way to give back to the community. We only have one JNF and the only way we can assure that this hospital stays running up and current is by generous contributions from folks, institutions, private sponsors and donors. That can only happen if we all come together as a community and raise funds…and generous contributions from private individuals, government institutions or private businesses. That’s what we are really looking for in terms of sponsorship.”

The Fundraising Committee Chairman said proceeds from past similar events have been donated to both the Pogson and Mary Charles Hospitals, but this time all of the proceeds would be donated to re-equip the Recovery Room of the JNF General Hospital.

Not only is this a great opportunity to give to a worthy cause, Besona expressed, it is also “a great opportunity to see the students in another light, rather than in white coats in the hospital, to show that we also have a fun side to us”.

Her final year at Windsor University, Besona said she has a passion for non-profit events and believes that rather than become part of a community then leaving without effect, it is always best to leave a positive impact on it.

“This is a passion I have. I love fundraisers to give back. I have done a lot of non-profit. To me, this is another opportunity to do something great and to leave a legacy…Don’t just come somewhere and leave, come and leave an impact, a positive impact.”
