BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOUR individuals, who were earlier this week alleged to have had two illegal pistols and a quantity of ammunition in their possession in two separate incidents, were charged with the offences and one of them has secured pre-trial liberty.
According to a police communiqué, Tyrel Hendricks of New Road was charged with possession of an illegal firearm and possession of ammunition.
Hendricks was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 and has to report to the Basseterre Police Station every Friday between 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents to the Magistrate Court.
On Monday (May 23), police had taken Hendricks and another man into custody following an early morning police search operation in the New Road area that resulted in the find of a .45mm pistol, seven rounds of matching ammunition and a quantity of marijuana.
No information was however received about the other man or who was charged with the marijuana find; that is if it were found in either of the men’s possession.
Two days later, police executed a search warrant on a residence in the Ponds Extension area, where a 9mm Beretta Pistol and 11 rounds of matching ammunition were found.
As a result three men, Glenville Assent, Keon Battice and Kylon Battice, all of Ponds Extension, were taken into custody.
They were each charged with illegal possession of firearm and possession of ammunition and remain in custody.
This week’s seizures have taken to 11 the number of illegal firearms and over 127 rounds of assorted ammunition removed from the Federation’s streets for the year.
