Two charged with MoneyGram robbery

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the use of technology, police have reported that two young men, one for whom they had issued a wanted bulletin, were arrested and charged yesterday (May 27) for allegedly robbing the MoneyGram office on Port Zante of an undisclosed sum of cash.

     

    A police communiqué stated that Inebo Ibo Hendrickson of Sandy Point and Reynauldo Jervis Jeffers of Buckley’s Site were charged with the Friday, May 20, 2016 offence.

    Reports reaching SKNVibes stated that at about 8:00 a.m. on the day in question when an employee of the money transfer company had opened the door to the office, two armed men who were among five customers had rushed into the office.

    They had reportedly forced the customers and the employees into an area and robbed the establishment of an undisclosed sum of cash before making good their escape in what was said to be a car in wait.

    A MoneyGram release said that images of the two robbers were caught on security cameras and handed over to the police to review the tapes.

    It also said that the robbers appeared to be between 25 and 30 years old and one of them was wearing a baseball cap with a Seattle Mariners logo, a white shirt and dark long pants, while the other was sporting a cap, a sunshades, sneakers, dark clothing and was carrying a backpack.

    The police communiqué stated that both men remain in custody.

    It also said that the Commissioner of Police, Ian M. Queeley, had commended the officers who were assigned to the case and declared that technology had played a major role in its prompt solvability.

    “I commend the officers for their hard work on this case. You remained vigilant and brought those responsible to the first steps of justice. The use of technology was a major contributing factor in making the quick arrest.” 

    “This is the second instance in recent times when the use of appropriate technology provided the police with timely and actionable information,” he added. “In view of this, I encourage the business community to invest in electronic surveillance equipment at their establishments.”
