BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOLLOWING the 1-nil victory over Suriname in the opening encounter of their second round of the CFU Caribbean Cup, the Sugar Boys will be looking to continue their remarkable run against a powerful St. Vincent and the Grenadines line-up tonight (June 7).

The game, which will be played at the famous Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, will see the home team looking to rebound from their stunning 2-1 loss to Suriname in Paramaribo last Saturday (June 4).

Speaking with SKNVibes Sports ahead of the encounter, General Secretary of the SKNFA Stanley Jacobs informed that the team is fit and ready for this evening’s game, noting that the Association  is confident that the team would return home as victors.

The SVG team entered the competition at the second round stage since they were still competing in World Cup Qualifiers when the Caribbean Cup started.

“We are by no means taking St. Vincent and the Grenadines lightly,” said Jacobs. “We are aware that they are one of the Caribbean teams that are still in the World Cup Qualifying competition. They are a very good team and we expect a very competitive match, but we know that our St. Kitts and Nevis team has been well prepared and we look forward to a very keen competition and a victory in this match.”

A victory for St. Kitts and Nevis will see them topping their group, while St. Vincent and the Grenadines would be eliminated.

Jacobs stated that the team is looking to top the group as an incentive for the victory and would be putting all out on the field to maintaining their winning ways.

“We are very pleased with our preparation leading up to this match. We are pleased with the results that we have received thus far in the competition, having won our last four matches without conceding a goal, and we believe that everything is in place and we are taking it one game at a time.”

Even with a minor defeat, the Sugar Boys can still progress since they hold a positive plus two goal difference.

The first whistle in this encounter will be blown at 5:30 p.m. and a  very vocal home crowd is expected to cheer on their team.

Team St. Kitts and Nevis would have their eyes set on the top prize and a place in the Gold Cup competition, according to President of the SKNFA Anthony Johnson.

Since attaining its highest ranking to date - 92, the team has focused its attention to making the top competition in the CONCACAF region, but it first has to get past the likes of Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Haiti, all of which joined the competition at the third round stage.
