Press Release

St. Kitts, May 2016 – Soup’s on! The St. Christopher Outreach Center now has more soup in stock, thanks to the contributions of the Tellers at the Scotiabank Fort Street Branch! The Scotiabankers came up with their first BBQ event to raise funds for the St. Christopher Outreach Center, more popularly known as “the Soup Kitchen”.

The team set up grills and with a volunteer chef from the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Defense force, they sold spicy and tasty barbecued offerings to passers-by. Their efforts raised EC$ 4,200.00 to support the Soup Kitchen’s initiatives.  These include providing hot meals, counselling, shower facilities and clean clothing for the underprivileged.

This latest effort is a continuation of the employee action teams’ commitment to make the community they serve better off.  “For us, service doesn’t just end in the branch. It goes beyond our doors into the communities we serve.” That was the declaration of Branch Manager, Annette Lestrade in discussing donations and community outreach carried out by staff members. “At Fort Street every department is expected to contribute to the community in one way or another”.

Over the past months, various departments at the branch have been busy raising funds and sharing joy.

At Christmas, the Service Representatives organized a toy drive in collaborated with the Social Welfare Division to bring Christmas cheer to needy children

In February, the annual car wash raised funds for the benefit of sick kids. This event combined efforts of the Bird Rock and Fort Street Branches raised EC$5,000 for the Pediatric Assistance League.  Now in its 7th year, the event has raised a total of EC$30,000 for charity.

In June the Sales Team will once again raise funds with their annual Cake Auction where staff bake and donate cakes which are then auctioned off in a fun event at the branch. The 2015 Cake Auction raised approximately EC$6,500.
