BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEARING the end of next month, Nevis will be the host venue for the first-ever Legends of Calypso in Concert event which will feature top calypsonians from the region.
Chairman of the Culturama Committee Antonio ‘Abonati’ Liburd recently told the media that the event, while not being organized by Culturama, would be part of the 42nd festival that will run from July 21 to August 2.
“We were approached by a promoter out of Montserrat to do a Legends of Calypso Concert here on Nevis. That concert would feature top regional performers.”
Liburd explained that the concert would be held annually on a rotational basis.
“Every year they would take this calypso show to different islands. They are starting it this year and they want to start it in Nevis for Culturama. Next year, they are going to take it to a different island.”
He did not provide the name of the organizing group or party but explained that promotion of the event is to begin within a matter of days.
Some of the listed acts Liburd said are Baron, Shadow and David Rudder out of Trinidad; De Bear of Antigua; and King Meeko of Nevis.
Musical accompaniment would be provided by the Grand Masters Band, Liburd disclosed.
The event is slated for Wednesday, July 27, 2016 and more information will be disclosed as the promotion begins.
