One accused in MoneyGram robbery bailed

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE of the two young men accused of robbing the MoneyGram office on Port Zante of an undisclosed sum of cash has secured his pre-trial liberty.

     

    According to a police communiqué, Reynauldo Jervis Jeffers of Russell Village and also of Buckley’s Site was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with four conditions.

    The court has ordered that he report daily at the Basseterre Police Station between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; surrender all travel documents to the Basseterre Magistrate Court; not to be found outside his residence between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.; and not to enter the premises of MoneyGram.

    Jeffers is scheduled to appear at the said Magistrate Court at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 5, 2016 to answer the charge preferred against him.

    On Friday (May 27), Jeffers and Inebo Ibo Hendrickson of Sandy Point were jointly charged for allegedly robbing the MoneyGram office on Friday (May 20).

    Reports reaching SKNVibes at that time had stated that at about 8:00 a.m. on the day in question when an employee of the money transfer company had opened the door to the office, two armed men who were among five customers had rushed into the office.

    They had reportedly forced the customers and the employees into an area and robbed the establishment of an undisclosed sum of cash before making good their escape in what was said to be a car in wait.

    A MoneyGram release said that images of the two robbers were caught on security cameras which were handed over to the police for reviewing of the tapes.

    It also said that the robbers appeared to be between 25 and 30 years old and one of them was wearing a baseball cap with a Seattle Mariners logo, a white shirt and dark long pants, while the other was sporting a cap, a sunshades, sneakers, dark clothing and was carrying a backpack.

    Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley had commended the officers who were assigned to the case and declared that technology had played a major role in its prompt solvability.

    “I commend the officers for their hard work on this case. You remained vigilant and brought those responsible to the first steps of justice. The use of technology was a major contributing factor in making the quick arrest.” 

    “This is the second instance in recent times when the use of appropriate technology provided the police with timely and actionable information,” he added. “In view of this, I encourage the business community to invest in electronic surveillance equipment at their establishments.”
