BVI, 13 June 2016 - Motorists and residents are notified that work will resume on the Road Town Sewerage System on Thursday, June 16.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Works the project will resume with sheet-piling works on Boo Bay Drive, in front of the St. William’s Catholic Church, and subsequently on Nibbs Street, in front of First Bank. A section of Nibbs Street will be closed to through traffic as well as a section of Boo Bay Drive for the duration of the project which is anticipated to be 15 days.

The works consist of bi-directional drilling and installation of the final 200 feet of 18 inch gravity sewer pipe from a manhole on Boo Bay Drive to a manhole on Nibbs Street.

The firm, Gene Hodge Trucking & Backhoe Co. was contracted $1.3 million in May 2014, to carry out the Gravity Mains project in this area.  These works will complete the upgrade on the system.

Motorists who need access to Boo Bay Drive from Waterfront Drive will be redirected onto Main Street via Chalwell Street to bypass the sectional closure. They will then turn right onto Parker Road to gain access to Boo Bay Drive. Motorists on De Castro Street and on Waterfront Drive are asked to be vigilant and to follow all road signs and adhere to the directions of traffic personnel in the area.

Works on the Force Main section of this project, from the Main Pump Station to the treatment plant at Burt Point was completed last year and is now producing clear and odorless sewage.

The Ministry of Communications and Works recognises that works will create an inconvenience for commercial activity in the area and thanks the public for its patience as they complete the final works to upgrade the Road Town Sewerage System.
