Public invited to Tortola toastmasters club 12th Anniversary Dinner

    Wednesday, June 22, 2016 - The Tortola Toastmasters Club is inviting the British Virgin Islands community to its 12th anniversary “Black and White Dinner and Auction” on Saturday, June 25.  This elegant eloquent evening will be held at the Calita Restaurant at Lambert Beach with cocktails beginning at 7:00 p.m. where club executives will be introduced and new members inducted. Additionally, there will be an auction with fantastic items for bidders. The proceeds of the auction will go towards defraying club funds, maintaining reasonable dues for the community and assisting with the Club’s public outreach projects.

     

    Tickets for the Black and White Dinner and Auction are $50.00 for singles, and $90.00 for couples, and are available from any Toastmaster. Vice President of Public Relations for the Tortola Toastmasters Club, Mrs. Nadia James-Harris stated, “The Tortola Toastmasters Club is a branch of Toastmasters International, and it provides a structured self-improvement programme where communication skills are used to build leadership and improve confidence through public speaking.” She added, “It is a safe environment where members learn from each other on ways to speak with confidence, strengthen their analytical skills and fine-tune their active listening abilities.” The Tortola Toastmasters Club was established in Oct 2003.   

     

    Since its establishment, it has conducted and assisted with various community outreach events including judging for the Junior Minister of Tourism Speech Contests; preparation of contestants for participation in pageants; and conducting public speaking workshops for members of the community to name a few. New members of the Executive Committee of the Tortola branch are Immediate Past President, John Lewis, President, Yvonne Thomas, Secretary, Elsi Industrius, Vice President of Education, Camille Merry, Vice President of Membership, Ingrid AlexanderCallwood and Sergeant at Arms, Devon Brown.

    The Tortola Toastmasters Club meets on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Botanic Gardens. Visitors are welcome to attend the scheduled meetings. Interested persons can also like the club on Facebook Page at the Tortola Toastmasters Club.  The Toastmasters International motto is “Where Leaders are Made”. The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity develop oral communication and leadership skills.
