BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AS citizens and residents were shopping for clothes, jewellery and cosmetics for Music Festival and other events, a sticky bandit was caught on camera at Lucky’s in Basseterre.

The bandit, a female, was caught on Friday (Jun. 24) stealing a bottle of “stretch mark oil” from the cosmetics outlet at The Circus.

Recounting what transpired, store manager Sagar Ealreja told this publication that on Friday last, employees recognized that the female in question entered the outlet and picked up two of the products which are used for removing stretch marks.

He said she placed one of the oils under her arm and held another in her hand, but “she was watching here and there and she saw nobody then she just put it her bag”.

“She comes by the cashier, puts one in her bag and then she cashed this one...she paid for one but took two. She paid for one and put the other one in her bag. She went out the store and then we checked the cameras and that is how we knew what she did,” Ealreja stated.

After reviewing the tapes, Ealreja said they notified two police officers who were in the vicinity of The Circus and they began searching for the woman.

“There were police around and we just called them and they took a statement after viewing the footage. They then went in search of the woman but they didn’t find her.”

The store is a popular target for thieves, and the manager explained that on average they had encounter approximately 15-20 persons who had removed items from the store without paying.

However, the cosmetics store has encountered problem with prosecution of know bandits, according to Ealreja.

“The last time a girl took two weaves and we reported it to the police, but to date the police haven’t done anything,” he disclosed. “We call the police a lot of times and we do follow up with them.”

Currently, the police are carrying out their investigation into the matter but management of the outlet informed that they would be looking to have the offender prosecuted.
