Six flung from truck in Tabernacle accident

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - INVESTIGATIONS are being made into a vehicular accident that resulted in six individuals being flung from the back of a truck.

The incident occurred sometime after 5:00 p.m. yesterday (Jun. 27) along a portion of the island main road known as Almond Walk, Tabernacle.

Superintendent Lionel Moore, Commander of District ‘B’, told SKNVibes that the accident involved a motor omnibus and a motor truck/lorry, both of which were travelling towards Saddlers’ direction.

He explained that the CONTEC-owned truck/lorry, which was at the front, was making an attempt to turn left into a road that would have taken it into Tabernacle Village when the bus, which was in the rear, attempting to overtake and struck it.

Moore said the impact was such that it caused the six individuals who were riding in the bed of the truck/lorry to be flung therefrom and deposited nearby across the street.

As other motorists passed the area, the injured parties were seen strewn across the roadway, obviously experiencing some pain or discomfort.

The Superintendent said the Emergency Medical Services was summoned and two units transported the injured parties to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.

While the extent of the injuries is unknown, Moore said he believes some might have suffered broken bones.

His advice to road users is to exercise care and caution while driving, observe the speed limit, pay attention to other road users, observe all road signs and use signals when necessary to indicate what course of action you intend to take.

Asked specifically if charges would be levelled against any of the drivers, the senior officer informed that the investigation would have to progress further in order for that to be ascertained.
