July 04, 2016 -- A quick response by the sentry on duty and the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were key in containing a fire at Government House this morning.
The fire in a back bedroom was discovered by the sentry during his security patrol of the property around 4:15 am. His immediate action and a call to the Fire and Rescue Services prevented significant damage to property.
Governor-General, His Excellency Sir S.W Tapley Seaton was not on property but arrived shortly after being notified of the fire.
His Excellency expressed his commendation to the sentry for his vigilance and dedication to duty and to the Fire Services for their response and professionalism.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
