Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 07, 2016 (SKNIS): The maintenance staff, grounds crew, custodians and volunteers that work at the Warner Park sporting facility have been commended for their service during the home stand of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots cricket team for the 2016 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
On Wednesday’s edition of “Working for You,” Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Stanley Knight, said the facility was in good standing before each game and the conditions did not go unnoticed.
“If persons were looking at - I think it was the Guyana versus Trinidad game [on July 02] - … they (the broadcast team) spent about 5 minutes of the broadcast speaking about how fantastic the condition of the grounds and the stadium at Warner Park is in,” he said.
A large part of the success was due to the custodial staff.
The cleaners at the stadium, led by Joan [Claxton], do a fantastic job in terms of maintaining the overall cleanliness,” he said, noting that it represents the overall integrity of the stadium. “Often, persons walk through and say why can’t other facilities be like this? Part of it, I think, is because of the pride of the persons that work there.”
Mr. Knight gave “kudos” to the staff at the Department of Sports, support officials, volunteers, the event management team and others for making it all happen.
“A lot goes into it with hundreds of persons making a coordinated effort to make this not only the biggest party in sport, but also to … deliver a class product that is viewed throughout the world.”
The spotlight will once again shine on Warner Park as CPL returns to St. Kitts early August for the semifinals and finals.
