Two injured in Newtown shooting

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are currently investigating a shooting incident that took place earlier tonight (Jul. 19) in Newtown that has left two teenagers seeking treatment at the JNF General Hospital.

    The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the vicinity of Mad House Alley and the victims names were given as 19-year-old Shivorn Smith of Ponds Pasture and 18-year-old Derrick Hendrickson of Newtown.

    According to a police report, initial investigation revealed that the victims were shot by an unknown assailant or assailants and they were taken to the hospital for treatment.

    The scene was canvassed by investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as well as technicians from the Forensic Services Unit.

    The police are asking anyone who might have information leading to the apprehension of the assailant(s) to contact the VCU at 467-1886, 467-1887 or 467-1888; or the CID at 465-2241, ext. 220 or 231; the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).
