BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE people of St. Kitts and Nevis are being asked to keep a close eye on two weather disturbances which are approaching the Caribbean and which could impact the nation within the next couple of days.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) issued a press release today (Jul. 29) which expressed that that agency, along with the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) and the St. Kitts Meteorological Office are “closely monitoring the two areas of disturbed weather”.
The closer of the two disturbances is located about 1000 miles from the Lesser Antilles and NEMA advised that “based on early projections, changes in weather conditions including gusty winds and possible showers from the first system should be experienced” in less than 24 hours.
The weather disturbances have not yet developed into cyclones and whether they do or not would be revealed with time.
And the NEMA indicated that precautionary measures should be taken in the event that the Federation is impacted by either of these disturbances.
“Although it is very early to definitively indicate at what strength any of the systems might impact St. Kitts-Nevis, employers are encouraged as a pre-caution, to put measures in place to secure assets, including computers etc. in advance of the two public holidays next week.”
The communique explained that revised forecasts would be released by the St. Kitts Meteorological Office over the weekend so as to keep the public apprised of the situation. And the NEMA reiterated that the public should pay attention to these bits of information.
