August 10th, 2016 -- On 17 December 1999, in its resolution 54/120, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.
The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production”. This year’s Day is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production.
In this regard, the St.Kitts-Nevis National Commission for UNESCO hereby solicits your assistance as media practitioners to commemorate the day and also encourage talks that bring youth issues within the Federation to the fore.
This can be done by:
1. Discussing issues facing youth surrounding the related theme during the daily talk shows on your radio stations.
2. Airing the International Youth Day Message 2016 from the Director General of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova.
3. Including in your news package, a press release on the same topic from the St.Kitts-Nevis National Commission for UNESCO.
We thank you for your kind consideration in addressing our requests and we look forward to future collaboration with you.
