JAMKIT Association members celebrate Jamaican Olympic victories together part 2

By: JAMKIT, Press Release

Basseterre, St Kitts; 16 August 2016:  It was an evening of fun, excitement, laughter and nervousness as members of the Jamaican Kittitian (JamKit) Association, the association of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaicans, living in the Federation of St. Kitts & Nevis (SKN), came together as one to watch and celebrate the men’s 100m Olympics race last Sunday, 14 August 2016.

It is a tradition for Jamaicans to come together for sports activities wherever they are around the world and the Jamaicans in St Kitts were no to be denied!  The vibes was such that it was as if we were in Rio, as Jamaica’s Living Legend, Usain Bolt, made history by copping his third consecutive 100m Olympic gold medal.

During the race everyone cheered on, then as Bolt crossed the finish line ahead of his rival Justin Gatlin, they ran, jumped and screamed in excitement and were joined by other non-Jamaicans present. The love was there! Everyone was happy as they celebrated Jamaica’s victory away from home.

That was what one Member had this to say and another said:

It was a wonderful night!  One group, one family coming together in one place to cheer on and support our Jamaican athletes!  Bolt did really great that night (14 August) proving that he is the world's fastest man for 3 consecutive Olympics.

“And know say we got the 4 by 100m in the bag too, both male and female”!

The night arrived, 14 August.  With great expectations, with happy vibe, a group of people gathered.  Who were they?  A blind man could see that it was a group of Jamaicans because of their patriotic attire!

On a high from the night before they were eager to take in the Olympics 100m men's final.  Why?  Because of Usain Bolt, who represents the small axe that fells big trees like America, Canada and Great Britain.  He imbues us all with immense pride...immense love for country.  The race began and all Jamaicans stood up to take in the race. They urged him on for the first half of the race when he was behind Gatlin, however, for the second half they were yelling and cheering on a champion to ensure he kept the lead he so effortlessly gained on the track on Rio.

The night ended with a bonding moment where the group huddled to secure their gathering in photo.  Smiles all around as they parted!  For just over 9 seconds all concerns were no more.

    Thank you Usain!

    One Love!
