BVI, 25 August 2016 - The new Wartsila generators for the Pockwood Pond Power station are scheduled to resume transportation from Port Purcell, following the completion of repairs to the self-propelled modular trailer used for transporting.

The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) in a statement said that transportation will resume on Sunday as “Repairs are now complete and we can now confirm that the remaining two transports are scheduled for Sunday, August 28, and Tuesday, August 30, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.”

One of the three new Wartsila diesel-fired generators arrived safely at the BVI Electricity Corporation’s Pockwood Pond Power Station on Monday morning. The trailer then experienced damage to its hydraulic hose whilst returning to Port Purcell.

The public is asked to use alternate routes, to remove all derelict vehicles from the road ways, and to refrain from parking on the roadways to prevent any transportation delays.

Temporary interruptions in electricity, telephone, water and cable television services may be experienced during transportation times of 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

As part of the Phase V Power Development Programme, the Wartsila generators will add 24.4 MW to the current national electricity grid and will be installed over the next few months. Phase V power upgrade works are expected to be completed by December.
