Jet Ski accident claims life of tourist

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – An American tourist who arrived in St. Kitts yesterday (Aug. 31) via a cruise vessel lost his life following a mishap which occurred while he was jet skiing.

     

    Information which this publication received indicates that the 40-year-old, who is said to be from Texas was enjoying the leisurely sport in the presence of a group of friends as Cockleshell Bay. 

     

    This media house understands that they were enjoying the recreational sport on jet skis which they rented from an outlet at Reggae Beach.

     

    The victim reportedly fell from the jet ski and encountered difficulty in the water at which point his friends made attempts to assist him by bringing him to shore.

     

    A report was made at the Frigate Bay Police Station at about 3:00 p.m. and investigations were made by the attending police.

     

    SKNVibes understands that the Emergency Medical Services was summoned to the scene and the man was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

     

    It is further understood that the deceased was a passenger of the Carnival Splendor cruise liner which arrived in port yesterday morning and did not leave port until sometime after 8:00 p.m.

     

    An autopsy is expected to be performed in short order to establish or confirm the cause of death.
