Police Press Release: Use social media responsibly, Commissioner Queeley tells students and the public

By: RSCNPF, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 08, 2016 (RSCNPF):  Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian Queeley addressed students returning to school in a recent broadcast about the  responsible use of social media.

In the broadcast aired on ZIZ Radio and Television, Commissioner Queeley said, "the use of social media is an indispensable part of our modern day living. However, again we say it must be used responsibly."  And added, "Misinterpreted messages or those so hurtful, can often result in serious violence, murders and huge division in the society”, he said.

Commissioner Queeley reminded parents and adults about the consequences of using social media platforms irresponsibly.

He said, “Adults and leaders in St. Kitts and Nevis, please take note. We all have a huge moral and social responsibility to use social media responsibly. Before you press the button to send, consider the enormous risks and potential consequences of your messages to you, your family and friends and anyone who may as a result be offended, hurt or even worse”.

Safety tips on the use of social media and other internet related platforms are available from the Cyber Crimes Unit of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force by calling 465-2241 ext. 4200.
