BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EVEN though the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has upped the ante in the fight against serious and other crimes in the twin-island Federation, some gun-toting individuals continue to defy the laws while criminals relentlessly target unsuspecting residents to relieve them of their hard-earned cash and valuables.
The most recent shooting incident reportedly occurred early yesterday (Sept. 10) in Newtown, St. Kitts, but fortunately no was injured.
According to a police report, it was a drive-by shooting which occurred at about 4:50 a.m. on Pond Road.
Initial investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) revealed that occupants of vehicle were travelling along Pond Road when they were at by an unknown assailant or assailants driving a car on the same thoroughfare.
Investigators from the CID and technicians from the Forensic Services Unit had combed the scene for items of evidential value and found a number of spent shells.
Also on St. Kitts, police are investigating a housebreaking and larceny incident in the Frigate Bay area.
No information was provided on the date and time of the incident, but police however indicated that the victims stated that after securing the property some unknown person had gained entry and stole a number of valuable items.
This scene was also processed by investigators.
Meanwhile, on sister isle Nevis, members of the CID are currently investigating a report of robbery that occurred in the Bath Village area on the night of Friday (Sept. 9).
Reports state that two individuals, one armed, had robbed a mobile ice cream vendor of an undisclosed sum of money while in the vicinity of the Prince of Peace Pentecostal Church in Bath Village.
No one was injured in this incident.
An insufficient description provided by the police described one of the robbers as “being about 6’-2” tall and the other about 5’-2”’
“Anyone who may have seen a pair of persons matching this description in Bath Village last night (Sept. 9) or may have seen any unusual activity around the ice cream vendor is asked to provide the information to the Police. You can do so by calling any Police Station or CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-8477 (TIPS),” a police communiqué said.
The police are also asking for the same to be done in relation to the drive-by shooting incident as well as that of the housebreaking and larceny.
