BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PAINTED across a portion of the perimeter wall of a property owned by his family, is a mural of the late Junieve ‘Spaz’ Hodge; the fulfillment of a promise made by his father to honour his memory.
Junieve ‘Spaz’ Hodge’s life came to a tragic end in late August 2016 after the motorcycle he was operating was involved in an accident.
The 21-year-old succumbed to injuries at the scene of the incident.
Shortly thereafter, his grief-stricken father, Superintendent of Prisons Junie ‘Scrape’ Hodge spoke at length with this publication hailing his son as a wonderful individual who valued family and was very professional and purpose-driven.
The mural is painted on the outer wall of H&H Security Services’ property and SKNVibes understands that it was done by Spaz’s former art teacher, Mr. Moses of St. Paul’s.
Also, an enlarged portrait of Spaz had been mounted on a wall on the inside of the building and, according to Hodge, plans have been made for other murals to be painted.
One of the things the Superintendent had indicated is that while Spaz was alive, he practically single-handedly ran his H&H Security Services company.
Hodge expressed to this publication that he would have soon changed the name of his company to H&H Spaz Security Services.
He also informed that the name change has been effected; however, the signage of business has yet to reflect that.
“It makes me feel good. It helps to relieve some of the pain when I’m honouring him. It makes me feel very good overall. But what crowned it is when someone sent me a whatsapp where some group announced him as an unsung youth hero,” Hodge said.
At the time of his death, Spaz was an Environmental Health Inspector. He is the Federation’s second road fatality for the year.
