BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE curtains came down on the 2016 Latin Festival last evening (Oct. 23) with lots of fun and cultural expressions at its Port Zante-based Village, where hundreds were in attendance.

Several entertainers from Cuba belted out their top Spanish lyrics and were backed by the popular DJ Red Noise.

According to Jose Rosa, Director of Latin Festival, the event was well attended and it highlighted that many people in St. Kitts and Nevis are receptive to the Latin culture.

The event which was themed the ‘Cuban Edition’, lived up to its billing and Rosa described the entire 2016 event as a “success”.

“All the activities were great! The entire week of activities was the best we have had so far.”

This year’s activities included movie presentations, art exhibition and a fashion show.

“You can’t ask for anything more. It was great and we love the response from the people on the island. What we have is shared cultures and as we grow bigger and bigger people are going to understand, and we love sharing it here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” Rosa said.

He noted that if they could bring various cultures to the Federation, then there is no need for the people to travel far and wide to witness such when it would be available locally.

The night’s event saw Cuban group Anacaona performing some of their top tunes after one couple out did their competitors to walk away victorious  in a dance competition.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago-born entertainer Olatunji Yearwood performed some of his top lyrics that had the crowd ‘jamming’, as he brought an end to the evening's proceedings.

The organisers of the mega event have informed that they have bigger and better things in store for the 2017 Latin Festival.
